The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs: Huh?

  • zorg · 1 year ago
I was about to chime in with "He's an idiot, ..." but I visited the link and suddenly saw what he's really saying! It's a three-part message:

    1. I hypnotized my editor so I can turn in utter drivel that he doesn't understand and that generate a lot of heated responses.

    2. I leave my overly-coiffed poodle at the keyboard while I just practice hypnosis and am carefully made over to resemble an aging intellectual (I'm actually only 17).

    3. I will eventually replace the poodle with cut-and-pastes from your angry responses about MBA-speak, and again I win!

Okay, I made up the part about the poodle's hairstyling, but the rest is exactly Steve Gillmor staying on message. He is NOT the irrelevant shithead he appears to be.

This, FSJ, is one of the finest examples of bastardized Rorty's "Linguistic Turn" as it occurs in clouds and spaces. What he is saying is that no matter how you turn (and twist) the behavioral information gathered by funky algorithms, human behavior cannot be modeled, not consistantly and hence we have to expand the model until it becomes absolutely useless in every situation although it impresses investors which keeps google stock afloat.

Close. The correct answer was "I'm a pompous, pretentious jackass".

    Nice try, though.

I believe this discussion can be greatly illuminated with the introduction of the term "Tensegrity".

Tensegrity describes a structural-relationship principle in which structural shape is guaranteed by the finitely closed, comprehensively continuous, tensional behaviors of the system and not by the discontinuous and exclusively local compressional member behaviors. Tensegrity provides the ability to yield increasingly without ultimately breaking or coming asunder.

    Hope that clears things up.

    Possible translation:

Google wants to sell your personal data to Mesh. Google collects data about every search, every app you use and every email you send, receive, read or delete. The more you use Google, the more Google knows about you and that data is extremely marketable in the form of personalized advertisements. Mesh takes the personal data they purchase from Google, Facebook and other websites and turns it into virtual spying devices that get to know your surfing habits so well they practically own your ass.

"Mesh takes the personal data they purchase from Google, Facebook and other websites and turns it into virtual spying devices that get to know your surfing habits so well they practically own your ass."

And when enough cool people use their cellphones at the latest "hot nightspot", Citysense will let -everyone- know where that is...

    From the Information Weak article:
"Citysense is a mobile map application, released in alpha. It highlights hot nightspots in San Francisco in real time. Users can spot locations on Google and Yelp and identify those with high activity at any given moment or view locations that historically draw the biggest crowds"

Maybe the new "hot nightspots" will have cellphone jammers active, and a landline at every table?? :)

Gillmore's tome is a perfect example of how we'll be forced to communicate if Microsoft wins: with incomprehensible MBA corporate technobabble. It terrifies me.

If I have to sit through one more deadly presentation with corporatespeak like "...implementing new a paradigm on a go-forward basis to increase our workflow from a 30 thousand foot view..."

It makes me want to puke. THIS is why I use, live and breathe Apple. Because it represents the opposite of what I hate.

The part I could translate was:
"be very afraid of using google apps."

Personally, I will keep my behavioral data to myself.
And begin thinking of Google as dangerous and MS as merely annoying.
