The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs: Foucault's Pendulum: An update

What? Correct me if i'm wrong but i recall dear leader saying "people don't read anymore". So then: Who cares about typefaces? Put down the book and buy it on Audible so you can listen to it on the iPod or even better get it for the Kindle.
  • Nico · 1 year ago
Most audiobooks are made by reading books that are typeset in Arial. I can't stand the sound of Arial.

    Brilliant, Nico. Many thanks.

  • vedang · 1 year ago
lol... the font's called bhenchod?? seriously??
why would anyone name a font "sister-fucker"?
  • Michael Fowke · 1 year ago
Don't read that pretentious nonsense. Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Celine - that's what you want!

Sachit is right... Anywhoo... why would anyone call a font "Bhenchod"

As McLuhan stated, "The medium is the message". That explains why I prefer 24 pt Myriad MM Tilt these days.

FSJ, I appreciate the reminder about your experience and credentials. Please consider publishing your vitae, It would remind devotees, "we must do all"

FSJ, you had a lucky escape - it was one of the most boring books that I've read in my life.

I shall summarize it for you:

'If you believe in conspiracy theories, you are a fool.'

It also has lots of post-structuralist stuff about the relationship between knowledge and power and stuff like that, but to be honest you're better off reading 'The Name of the Rose' if you like that sort of thing.

However, I'm not sure if the typography in that book is up to your standard either...
  • Tim of the Sand · 1 year ago
I think it's more like "If you believe strongly enough in conspiracy theories, you can generate your own conspiracy."

Yeah, Eco can be entertaining, but he's not always. In fact he's a bit of a pseud, and a peddler of that dreary "semiotics" nonsense to boot. But I guess that's the point: FSJ is not going to have RSJ reading something that's difficult but interesting - Kant, say, or William Langland. And one can see that he won't have him actually reading this book anyway - just name-dropping it.

Here's a spoiler: Belbo dies in the end. But don't we all? See, now you can just drop it.

Haha! this is sweet revenge for being a prick and not opening Apple Stores in India and shutting down Apple Tech Support in the land that gave you peace!
Bhenchod = sister (bhen) fucker(chod) in Hindi
    You've been had FSJ!

No wonder the iPhone SDK is late; SJ is reading Eco instead of personally micromanaging every detail. :-)

What next - a Bhenchod edition of Options ?
  • Todd · 1 year ago
Here's how the book ends: You find out the book sucks.

Save the hours of your life you would spend reading it on something more fun, like pulling out your eyelashes.
  • faddah · 1 year ago
not only that, probably the way the kerning is done so absolutely randomly throughout the tome must be maddening and hard on your poor bespectacled eyes, our fearless leader. such sacrifices you make for us! such unlimited compassion & patience! i'm surprised you haven't thrown the book up against the wall. or had ja'red burn it for you.

do you read any of the books you burn?
  • lastangelman · 1 year ago
Whoa, trying to slip a fast one, eh, FSJ, our family had a houseboy from Goa when we lived in Bahrain back in the day, and he taught me ALL THE DIRTY WORDS they used in his village. He taught me some Portuguese slang, too, like, enchemos lingüiça.

The typeface is important to the user experience. You have always been about the user experience. This is not surprising that you would seize so immediately upon the book's primary weakness.
