The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs: Dear John Lilly of Mozilla: You are a craven, hypocritical vagina, and I hope you get crabs.

  • vaporland · 1 year ago
actually, on windoze, Safari IS malware - iTunes too.

i like osx & my mac, but apple apps do not play well in the windoze sandbox

More criticism for Apple's approach to "updates" here: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=405. Says Apple should take lessons on how to do updates in a way that respects the customer from none other than Microsoft. "Cupertino, get your photocopiers ready."

    Malware? Boy, I wish.
Malware authors at least put *some* effort into keeping the host oblivious by not crashing all the damn time. To even suggest mozilla feels threatened by Winfari is simply ridiculous.

Its a pity the PhotoCrank Browser tool doesn't work on Valleywag.

That sticker that says FSM looks ripe for crankin'!
  • ME · 1 year ago
That's alittle hars dude, I don't wish crabs on anybody. Except maybe UBL.
  • rlramirez · 1 year ago
After the Valley had finally monopolized all 7 of the Deadly Sins, they soon realized they were now making, and not breaking, the rules.

Mere moments thereafter, that nagging little voice inside them just faded away...

    >>>Follow the money, as Sartre once said.

Didn't he also say, "I love my Mac"?

And if Mozilla had a delivery system even half as good as iTunes is, you bet your balls theyd shove Firefox down that pipe too...

Choke on it Mozilla. You fail.

    from the M5 article's comments:

Last I knew, the MOZILLA plate belonged to Netscape founder Lou Montulli."

Has anyone ever heard of something called 'personal responsibility' i.e. that *you* are in fact responsible for clicking 'OK' in Software Update?

So is it not allowed to have a first priority other than money and at the same time make a decent amount of money?
  • Bruce Heavin · 1 year ago
Actually a BMW M5 is about $100,000+, not $80,000. Unless you want to strip the fun useful stuff off of it completely, then that would make him a M-tard.

yannoo, that cravenly, hypocritcal, whiney little va-jay-jay john lilly sure looks awfully familiar to me. but i see he's improved his choice in eye-wear, a bit.
  • oakling · 1 year ago
I *wish* someone would push Safari onto our windows computers at work. I had to download Mozilla just to have a decent browser over here, and one of the computers doesn't allow it.

i know john, i've worked with john, he's a good guy. lampooning is fun but don't take it too far.
  • lastangelman · 1 year ago
Mozilla could be using Firefox's update to drop Thunderbird, Sunbird and other projects on users machines BUT that would stem the flow of all that Google money. Google wants doesn't want any competition to its Gmail w/chat and Calendar services. If Google stopped the torrent from its coffers into Mozilla's piggybank, all those Foundation pricks and cunts would have to find real jobs, and all those Mozilla projects would become real community freetard projects again. Not likely. For the time being, Mozilla is nerd-speak for Google's bitch. Don't be surprised if Google buys Opera and abandons Mozilla like a john running from a cheap infected street whore.
  • BarraCoder · 1 year ago
Hey FSJ, don't hold back dude - let your feelings out.
  • Nathaniel Tucker · 1 year ago
I think the difference is quite obvious when Mozilla gives users infinite choice (whatever search service you want, whatever extensions you want, whatever code you want) and good defaults. On the other hand, Safari gives no choice, and crappy defaults. Just like every other Apple product. All monopolistic practices because
Apple can't compete with other companies if users are given a choice.
  • Maxo · 1 year ago
Instead of debating the validity of his point you come out attacking him. His blog post did not read as an attack. He makes a point that by pushing software in with updates, you are breaking the trust of users. Is it true? Is it not true? Nobody's going to debate it, they are simply going to hang John for bringing it up.
Whether or not he is right, and despite the motive John comes on top for being professional and correctly articulating his points. Those who would rather engage in name calling and making Red Herring points lose, because they aren't even argueing intelligently.

I'm only confident ZDNET won't actually post my comments but suffice it to say that the F word was wrapped around "dickless" nonprofit exec's seeing $66M in annual rev's and complaining about free market economics... try being a small business body shop contracting the federal government FOR profit... I'd be happy with 66 cents in easy money. I'm a bigger Apple fan boy now than ever now and not even ashamed of my VW Passat Wagon 2.0FSI... Christ, an M5? Pussy Wagon. Life's a bitch with your non profit is sucking down $66M for doing absolutely f##king nothing!
  • almostgotit · 1 year ago
Since when do we morph the insult "dickless" into calling someone a "vagina?" Never mind that the IT business remains such an incredible sexist bizz.

But in my case, being "dickless" is not a defect. And my gorgeous vagina hopes YOU are the one who gets crabs!

Firefox's updating tactic is far worse than Apple's recommendation about a browser that runs faster than Firefox. Firefox uses a dirty tactic that forces users to update/install the software at anytime Mozilla wishes. (see http://ant.sillydog.org/blog/2007/001806.php ).

Apple Software Update did not force users to install Safari, unlike Firefox's default setting.
  • Cato the Censor · 1 year ago
Yeah, well after being prompted to install Safari 3.1 on my Vista box for the fourth time, I finally just removed Apple Software Update from my machine.

    Piss off, Apple.
  • Mike Cane · 1 year ago
You did the right thing there, soldier.

You can't have something that *works*. It might ruin that whole WOW Vista Experience.

Bill Gates says your check is in the mail. Hotmail. Expect it to bounce as spam, however.
  • Dr Brown · 1 year ago
I love this. Apple frigtards to jump their defense when Apple does something like this, but when Microsoft does it then it's all sue them for anti-competitive practices etc.
I'm sorry but Safari does *not* work on a windows platform and before you go blaming the OS, it's nothing to do with that. Plenty other browsers out there work without crashing all the time.
  • tiredOfItAll · 1 year ago
I'll bet that both "Cato" and "Dr Brown" sell real estate....
  • Cato the Censor · 1 year ago
Then you would lose. I've been writing software since before you were born. My first computer was a Burroughs accounting machine programmed with wires on a patch panel.
  • Cato the Censor · 1 year ago
I'll keep that in mind as I check Hotmail on my iPhone. I buy and install what works for me, not what works for Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. Mozilla works fine for me on Vista. So does Vista SP1 from Microsoft. As does iTunes from Apple.

Safari does not and I don't want it pushed at me every time Apple Software Update phones home, so now Apple Software Update is gone.
